"Why do I need a gas interlock?"
If staff are able to light the gas without first turning on the extraction system the staff would suffer the ill effects of a build up consisting of potentially dangerous fumes, leading to headaches, nausea, fatigue or even worse.
The British Standard BS 6173 (2001) has therefore been amended to provide users of gas fired appliances with protection against the effects of exposure to combustion gases given off when gas is used for cooking. This is not an option – this is a mandatory legal requirement.
All new gas fired installations must now have a gas interlocking system fitted that prevents the gas being turned on until the extraction system is extracting air.
